Dr Nico van Zyl obtained his medical degree at Wits University, South Africa in 1995 and worked in psychiatry in the UK until 2008. He joined Hannover Re Africa in 2009 and was appointed Medical Director for Hannover Re America in 2017. He holds a Master of Health Informatics degree from the University College London.
